Pippa's Journey with a Brain Tumour

What a Star You Are

Surgery went well and the Neurosurgeon was able to obtain a good amount of tissue samples for testing. She came into recovery able to move all limbs and body parts and her face has not deteriorated further.  She’s having a lovely sleep and has come through recovery perfectly!!

That’s  Step One down, now back to limbo waiting for test results.

Sleepy Limbo

Pippa has had a very sleepy day feeling the affects of such a big surgery.  Of course her brothers and Nan were here for her when she needed to see them.  They have been staying at Ronald McDonald House which is terrific to have them close by.

The tissue from the “lump” is still proving tricky to diagnose and thus we won’t have any answers to what it is until mid next week.  Likewise, what lies ahead of us is still unknown.

On a brighter note, Pippa was happy to wake after one sleep to a brief visit of brightly coloured balloons from her cousin and friend, Claudia.

Bandages and Boys

Pippa woke as bright as a button this morning and did some drawings.  Lots of sleeping still, but she was able to have her bandage removed which feels great.  Another highlight of Pippa’s and my day was a surprise visit from Tony (my Dad).

Today, however, was more about the boys.  I wanted Pippa to have a really good rest day as I was expecting it to be a pretty yuck pain day coming off morphine – yet again she was a trooper and ended up having no pain at all.  A friend brought her boys in to pick up James & Patrick and they had a fun afternoon playing Laser Strike at Crown and eating junk food!  When they eventually came back to the hospital laughing and kicking the footy as they walked in, they then decided to embark on a game of “Elevator Tiggy”

Early this morning Patrick was kindly picked up by a friend and taken to Windy Hill for an open Essendon Training Session.  In one word – Awesome!  I think the grin says it all!  He’s still smiling because he’s backing it up with tickets to the Bombers match tomorrow.

Toby and the Balloons

This morning Pippa had a visit from another patient in hospital – Toby who just loooooooooves balloons!  He provided lots of fun and laughter and then Pippa went for a walk around the ward with him.

He is soooooooooo cute!!!!

Footy and Rock Climbing……..

……Not Pippa!

Patrick went to watch his beloved bombers win and James went indoor rock climbing with friends

Pippa went for a huge walk in preparation for taking Armelle to visit the meekats when she visits tomorrow.

Currently we are “chillaxin” watching Pitch Perfect 🙂

Pride and Tears

I may or may not blog anything for a few days as nothing much will change.  Pippa is a star patient!  I was told she would possibly vomit for up to 2 days post surgery – she didn’t.  I was told Saturday would possibly be a pretty painful and awful day for her – it wasn’t.  For now we are  just waiting for results of tests.

However, I wanted to blog a story from a very thoughtful card we received – I was filled with tears and pride at the same time for my beautiful daughter……….

Dear Virginia, Pippa, James & Patrick,

We are thinking of you.  We have fond memories of meeting you all at Port Fairy.

Virginia, your words about Pippa ring so true…….”a caring and thoughtful friend to everyone she meets.”

The first time we turned up at Nippers Pippa extended her hand to Edward, although she was holding her other friend’s hand, and gracefully ran with both of them on either side of her into the waves.  That spontaneous friendliness was such a mark of character.  She didn’t need to be told at the time that Nippers’ culture was quite foreign to Edward – the vast beach, the awesome waves, the strong wind and the sea of unknown kids in wetsuits and skull caps.

Pippa, your gesture of friendship, which was so spontaneous, put Edward at ease and from that moment he felt part of  Nippers and considered you his friend.  He looks forward to seeing you again this summer.  You are a truly beautiful friend through and through.

Thank you to everyone for so many beautiful messages like this one xx
